NHL Tape Jobs
Tape Your Hockey Stick Blade Like Cole Caufield
We are going to review how you can tape your hockey stick blade using the same method as one of the best goal scorers in the NHL, Cole Caufield.
Materials Needed
The first thing needed is the hockey stick. The hockey stick we use in the video is the Pro Blackout Extra Lite stick from hockeystickman.com with the P28 curve. It is similar to the toe curve used by Cole Caufield, but not exactly the same, as he uses the P90M curve, which has a bit less toe curve.
The second thing we need is some 1-and-a-half-inch white hockey cloth tape. In the video, we went with the Renfrow brand as I have found that it does not leave that annoying residue that some other cloth tapes leave on the stick blade.
The third thing we need is a pair of scissors to trim up the tape or to use to cut the tape if desired.
Lastly, he adds wax to the tape.
Before you put this together, here are the key components of his tape job:
Use 1 and a half inch white hockey tape and start from the backhand side of the blade and tape from heel to toe.
When at the toe, you should pull some excess tape to make it easier to cover the entire toe, but you will need scissors to trim up the toe.
Add a bit of wax to give the tape a bit more grip and repel some of the ice or water from building up on the tape.
Steps to tape your hockey stick like Cole Caufield
Starting on the backhand side of the heel, place the tape about three fourths of the way up the backhand side and begin wrapping from the heel to the toe. While taping the blade be aware of how much overlap the tape has. The tape will have a decent amount of overlap, about 1/8th of the width of the one and a half inch tape.
Once near the toe, unroll a bunch of the tape, make sure it is more than enough to finish the toe. This makes it easier to cover the entire toe with tape.
With this excess tape, finish the toe and make sure to press down all edges around the toe.
Add some wax. Here, we will take some of this [insert wax name] wax and put a light coating on the tape. I would recommend not going crazy with the wax as too much will make the blade too grippy and possibly hurt key parts of your game like passing or stickhandling.
And that is it! Now that you have the Cole Caufield tape job on your paddle, go score some goals!
