NHL Tape Jobs
Tape Your Hockey Stick Blade Like Jamie Benn
We are going to review how you can tape your hockey stick blade using the same method as one of the best NHL goal-scorers, Jamie Benn.
Materials Needed
The first thing needed is the hockey stick. The hockey stick we use in the video is Pro-Blackout Extra Lite stick from hockeystickman.com with the P28 curve. It is similar to the toe curve used by Jamie Benn, but not exactly the same, as he uses the P90T curve, which is a hybrid of the P28 and P92 curves.
The second thing we need is some 1-inch white hockey cloth tape. In the video, we went with the Howie’s hockey tape, which I received as a free gift when purchasing some gloves from ProStockHockey.com.
The last thing we need is a pair of scissors to cut the tape in case the tape is being unruly.
Before you put this together, here are the key components of his tape job:
Start about one-third of the way up the blade from the heel and end a bit more than 2/3rds of the way up the blade.
He uses white 1-inch tape and makes roughly 6 passes up the blade towards the toe, with about 1/4th of an inch of overlap.
Steps to tape your hockey stick like Jamie Benn
Starting about 1/3rd of the way up the blade from the heel on the backhand side, put a bit of tape near the top, roughly one inch, then begin taping up the backhand side and then straight down the forehand side.
Going back to the backhand side, begin taping up the blade, leaving about 1/4th of an inch or less of the tape as you tape towards the toe. You should only make roughly 6 passes with the tape.
On the 6th pass, backhand side, pull the tape back to align with the top of the last pass, then rip or cut the tape at the top of the blade.
And that is it! Now that you have the Jamie Benn tape job on your paddle, go score some goals!
