How to Tape Your Hockey Stick Like Connor McDavid
NHL's Most Electrifying Player — 1.5" White Tape, Heel to Toe
Connor McDavid is the most electrifying player in hockey, and his tape job is clean and functional. Here's exactly how to replicate it.
Materials Needed
- Hockey stick: CCM Jetspeed with P92 curve (similar to McDavid's setup, though McDavid's paddle is larger and more square)
- Tape: 1.5-inch white hockey cloth tape (Renfrow brand recommended — doesn't leave residue)
- Scissors (optional, for trimming the toe)
Key Components of Connor McDavid's Tape Job
- Reinforce the toe with a small piece of tape before starting.
- Start at the heel and tape toward the toe (heel-to-toe direction).
- Uses white 1.5-inch tape covering nearly the entire blade, with minimal overlap (~1/8th the tape width).
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Tear a few inches of tape and place it on the toe to reinforce and cover it.
- Starting on the backhand side at the heel, place the tape about three-quarters of the way up and begin wrapping toward the toe. Keep overlap to about 1/8th the tape width.
- Once you reach the toe, make sure it's fully covered. If the toe overhangs slightly, either press the tape down or trim the excess with scissors.
And that's it — McDavid tape job done. Go score some goals.
