How to Tape Your Hockey Stick Like Jamie Benn
Half-Blade Tape Job — 1" White Tape
Jamie Benn doesn't tape his whole blade — just about half of it. A minimalist tape job with a distinct look.
Materials Needed
- Hockey stick: Pro-Blackout Extra Lite from HockeyStickMan.com with P28 curve (Benn uses P90T, a P28/P92 hybrid)
- Tape: 1-inch white hockey cloth tape (Howie's hockey tape)
- Scissors (optional)
Key Components of Jamie Benn's Tape Job
- Start about one-third up from the heel and end about two-thirds of the way up the blade.
- 1-inch white tape, roughly 6 passes with about one-quarter inch of overlap.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Start about one-third up from the heel on the backhand side. Place a bit of tape (about an inch) near the top, then begin taping up the backhand and straight down the forehand.
- Back to the backhand — begin making passes up the blade toward the toe. Leave about one-quarter inch or less of overlap per pass. Make only about 6 total passes with the tape.
- On the sixth pass (backhand side), pull the tape back to align with the top of the last pass, then rip or cut at the top of the blade.
Jamie Benn tape job done. Go score some goals.
