How to Tape Your Hockey Stick Like Sidney Crosby
3x Stanley Cup Champion — 1" Black Tape, Heel to Toe, Tight Overlap
Tape your stick like a 3-time Stanley Cup champion. Crosby's tape job is all about clean black tape with tight, consistent overlap from heel to toe.
Materials Needed
- Hockey stick: Warrior Covert with W01 curve (flat curve with taller paddle, similar to Crosby's setup)
- Tape: 1-inch black cloth tape (Howie's hockey tape works well)
- Scissors (optional)
Key Components of Sidney Crosby's Tape Job
- Start at the heel and tape toward the toe.
- Use plenty of tape — the overlap on Crosby's tape job is substantial, about one-quarter to one-third of the tape width.
- Black tape. Some players prefer black because it helps hide the puck on the blade.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Start about an inch behind the heel on the backhand side. Place the tape and begin wrapping toward the toe.
- Keep the tape tight with one-quarter to one-third overlap as you work toward the toe — Sid's is consistent and clean.
- Once you reach where the toe starts to round off, go around one more time. Cut the tape, leaving about an inch on the forehand side, then angle that final piece back toward the heel.
Crosby tape job done. Go dish some passes.
