How to Tape Your Hockey Stick Like Trevor Zegras

One of Hockey's Most Innovative Players — 1.5" White Tape, Toe to Heel with Wax

Trevor Zegras plays like nobody else, and his tape job matches that energy. White tape, toe to heel, finished with wax. Here's how to do it.

Materials Needed

  • Hockey stick: CCM Jetspeed with P92 curve (same curve Zegras uses)
  • Tape: 1.5-inch white hockey cloth tape (Renfrow brand recommended)
  • Scissors (for trimming toe)
  • Hockey wax (to finish the tape job)

Key Components of Trevor Zegras's Tape Job

  1. Starts at the toe and tapes toward the heel (toe-to-heel direction).
  2. White 1.5-inch tape, starting on the forehand side, minimal overlap.
  3. Finishes with a light coat of wax to add grip and repel water/ice buildup.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Starting on the forehand side of the toe, place the tape at the top of the blade and pull straight down the toe, nearly flush with the edge. Come up the backhand side, completely covering the starting point.
  2. Back to the front — bring the tape down at an angle toward the heel. Overlap should be about a quarter inch or less. Continue to the heel.
  3. On the last backhand pass, pull tape back to align with the top of the previous pass. Rip or cut at the top.
  4. Trim any tape overhanging the toe with scissors.
  5. Apply a light coat of wax. Keep it light — too much wax kills your passing and stickhandling feel.

Zegras tape job done. Go make some highlight reel plays.
